This year will be a special Queensday, because our Queen will reside from the throne and her son Prins Willem will become our new king! Therefore the next Queensday in 2014 will be called Kingsday, and will be held on april 27th instead of on April the 30th. That’s because on the 27th it’s our new King his birthday! If you want to have a glance of how we (the dutchies) celebrate this great event you should head up to the dam where the crowning will take place in the palace on the dam.
The Amsterdam municipality decided today that Queensday 2013 will be the same as 2012, small and cozy!
Queensday 2012 was compared to previous years smaller and the events were better spread across the city. There was also special attention to the prevention of alcohol abuse. The evaluations shows that the policy has been successful, the atmosphere was pleasant and less aggressive. The Amsterdam municipality decided to choose also for 2013 a new, smaller-scale structure.
This year 700.00 people celebrate the Queens birthday in Amsterdam, 100.00 people less than previous years.
