Amsterdam will blow out 737 candles this week because it’s the capital city’s birthday !!

October year 1275, the day when Floris V of Holland Amsterdam exempted from toll rights. He did this with the so-called “toll privilege”.
This is the first document where the name Amsterdam appears, that’s why everyone agreed to see this document as the birth certificate of the city.

The document is very vulnerable to light and temperature changes and can therefore only be shown a few days a year to the public. This week its posssible to see this document, the certificate of Amsterdam, on a display in a glass case at the City Archives.

We from TrueAmsterdam want to congratulate Amsterdam, hurray and cheers !!
