Bloemenbar opened its doors on December 26th 2011 and since then it has been a popular spot among locals. On the ground floor you can find some comfortable couches to sit on, but also wooden benches which give you the feeling of sitting in a park. It’s possible as well to sit upstairs but usually it isn’t as lively there compared to the ground floor. If you’re in the bar take a look at the wall as well, although it’s hard to miss. A collection of random retro stuff is put up on an installation of shelves. All of this gives the bar a distinctive look!
The smokers among us may love this bar even more as it is allowed to smoke inside. Most bars in Amsterdam don’t allow smoking and usually don’t have a smoking area like clubs do. As a non-smoker myself, I’ve gotten used to the no-smoking rule so my eyes get a bit weary after a while here. But don’t let a bit of smoke get in your way. Bloemenbar is a great bar with sort of an ”underground” vibe.
Not only is this a good place to relax and socialize, they also play nice music. And as the hours go by, the small dance floor gets more and more crowded.
Although you don’t have to pay an entrance fee, the wardrobe is mandatory and costs one Euro. It’s actually quite convenient as you can now move from couch to dance floor without worrying about your belongings.
The staff is young and very friendly. It’s clear that they like working there and enjoy the ambiance as well. Most visitors are young and fashionable people. The bar is gaining popularity so there’s a chance you might have to wait a bit to get in, but it’s well worth it!
