The 2011 edition was the first one and a successful one. The organizers of Pitch wanted to program the most new and progressive acts in the electronic music scene. They did a quite good job.
The festival was a Saturday dance marathon (13.00 till 05.00!) and the Sunday from 13.00 till 23.00 so that everybody had enough sleep to get to work on time (and fit?) the morning after.
The festival took place in the centre of the city. The ‘westergasterrein’ was the place to be this weekend. The organization used the ‘westergasfabriek’, the ‘transformatorhuis’ and the westerunie to program above mentioned bands.
The atmosphere was really good both days, on the Sunday a little bit more relaxed. Probably had something to do with the Saturday night/Sunday morning.
The tokens were pretty expensive: € 2,60,- per token. The food was really bad actually; I think I never had a thai dish that bad….. Also the lines for the food were too big. On the other hand, there was enough room at the bars.
The music was overall good, especially the Sunday with Nicolaas Jaar, Jamie Woon and Kakkmaddafakka.
The advantage of this festival is the location, the quality of the program and the festival area is not big. Disadvantages were the long lines at the food stands, the waiting lines to get to a concert; sometimes a concert already started but it was too busy to get in.
Because this was the first edition I’m pretty sure that the organization learned from these errors and will make it even a better festival next year.
This festival is a real must do when you’re in town the first weekend of July. Keep an eye on this site for news, updates and presale of tickets!
