If you are planning to visit Amsterdam this summer, make sure you don’t miss the magnificent Grachtenfestival in August. From 10 to 19 August, the historic city centre of Amsterdam, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2010, will boast a ten-day festival of classical music in many special locations. The Grachtenfestival 2012, which takes love as its theme, will be the 15th edition of this highly successful festival full of ambiance, with over 50,000 expected visitors from the Netherlands and abroad. Asides from its special locations, productions, and programmes, the Grachtenfestival has traditionally provided a stage for young talented musicians, giving them every opportunity to take the next step in their musical careers.
The Grachtenfestival will be held both indoors and outdoors – on pontoons in the canals, on boats, in splendid 17th-century canal houses, and in many other typical locations. The complete programme will be announced on 14 June 2012 on grachtenfestival.
The organisers ensure that ticket prices are kept affordable, and several open-air concerts are free to the public. Tickets are available via the Grachtenfestival website at www.grachtenfestival.nl, or at the AUB Ticketshop.
