Bar de Karpershoek is Amsterdam’s oldest bar (since 1629). It is located just across the Central Station. It has sand on the floor, like it used to be. This was put on the floor because people used to spit their chewing tobacco on the floor.
This bar is the perfect place to start your pub crawl. They will serve you the perfect beer. It is not a place to stay all day or evening, but you have to go here to feel what Dutch bars were like back in the early days. No trendy stuff, but just an old school bar. No music, but people talking to each other and enjoying their drinks!
The service is very good; the barkeeper is keeping an eye on you to make sure your glass is not empty. Very nice! This bar is located on a unique spot, nevertheless the prices in this bar are very normal. The Karpershoek is really a special place, have a couple of beers here to get started for a fantastic day out in Amsterdam.
