This square is mostly covered with grass and therefore often used to relax or sport. It’s situated just behind the Rijksmuseum and next to the van Gogh museum.
The square is surrounded by bars and museums, also a big supermarket is located on the southern corner. Especially during the summer it’s very busy on this square with locals and tourist who are relaxing, playing football, volleyball, etc. Most people just bring a rug or towel, a couple of drinks and snacks. That’s all you need for a relax day on the Museumplein. On the other hand, the fact that the square is covered with grass is also its disadvantage.
When the weather is not so good, the square is not useable for relaxation or sport. During the winter there’s a big ice skating rink, you can hire skates here and try it out yourself!
